Shamanism is over 70,000 years old. It is the oldest recorded form of spiritual practice. It was the primary spiritual path for all indigenous cultures throughout the world. At one point in our evolution we were all Shamanic practitioners. Shamanism is not a religion and one can use the practices without being in conflict with any other spiritual practices. One of the most attractive things about Shamanism is its spiritual democracy - there is no hierarchy; it is all about personal empowerment wherein one comes to acquire respect for one’s own ability to obtain spiritual wisdom without relying on external mediators.

Shamanism is primarily a spiritual path of self healing which helps us to reconnect with our natural ways of being and finding harmony and balance from within. From a shamanic perspective illness arises as a result of lack of power. A shaman is a person of power they have learned to balance their energies within themselves and their environment by bring information back from non-ordinary states of consciousness where can be in dialogue with mythic personages or spirits through which profound insights are revealed; initiation experiences “magical flights “out-of-body phenomena; and so on.

Visionary material that emerges is typically of a mythical or transpersonal nature. Encounters with spiritual forms such as a great teacher , interaction with power animals or guardian spirits , visits to realms of extraordinary beauty and harmony, visions of otherworldly lights and landscapes, and communication with the spirits of the dead are all part of the shaman’s experience, and as classic and contemporary shamanism evolves more and more people are exploring these ecstatic techniques, to bring back this much needed healing and wisdom for themselves, their families and the wider community.
